Poetry
Ode to Deerfoot

Oh Deerfoot is a highway true
Snaking through the city to
Highway 2 and places north
Of if you prefer, to places south.

Those who built this roadway wide
With a shoulder, on the side
Is meant for traffic oh so fast
Unfortunately, it does not last.

On the radio most of days
Is news of things to bar our ways
Things that create a joy obstruction
Speed traps and, of course, construction.

Comes the winter, comes the snow
And yes, you’ve guessed it, things go slow
Average speed now is much slower
With crashes for those, using too much power.

So Deerfoot, going north and south
Driving straight through Calgary’s mouth
Despite all this you're rather neat
Much better than fifty second street, and its millions of traffic lights.
